Qualifications for Speakers
American Speaker Association has since many years established a set of guidelines for speakers. It is imperative that speakers and trainers understand that the public wants to know how good they are before purchasing a seminar ticket. Even though a particular speaker has extensive knowledge and experience in his field, this does not guaranty him being an excellent speaker. On the other hand, a great ’speaker’ is no guaranty that the audience will recommend him, if he does not also deliver value. So what makes a successful speaker, trainer, coach? Since a few years, the ASA has simplified and streamlined the qualifications into 3 competencies: Expertise, Eloquence and Enterprise. Speaker Indonesia is using and applying these points, as to give the speakers and the public guidelines and indications about the competence of the speakers on our list.
Let’s start with the first one, Expertise. If someone wants to be a speaker, he/she needs to be an expert in something. People who are considered the “go to” person in a specific industry very often are asked to present their knowledge or point of view to the public, because they are considered the one who knows best.
How do you become the market leader and speaker then? Find your passion, the one thing you know or can do in your sleep, the thing that takes almost no effort, the easy, fun thing. Learn every thing you can about it, practice it and do it. Develop more practical, smarter and faster ways to use or do it. Then start speaking about it, teach your improved method and experience to others, always and constantly. Before long people around you will notice you. The more people you can help with your specific expertise, the faster people will talk about you and your qualification… And the rest is, as they say, history.
As Glenn Dietzel from Sell High Priced Programs says, many people are not aware of the special knowledge they have accumulated over the many years they have worked in a particular job or industry. They themselves do not value the expertise they possess, so how can they possibly “sell” it and be respected for it by others.
Dear Speakers or wannabe speakers, become The Expert and ‘go to’ person in your industry and chosen ‘niche market’. Constantly learn research and improve on your knowledge and experiences. Be sure you have developed an easy practical way teach it to the public and see your speaking carrier take off.
Speaker Indonesia is applying and using the guidelines from the ASA to qualify speakers and therefore give the public a comprehensible idea of the speaker’s ability, skills and talents. We are also happy to help, coach and discuss the points with you our speakers.
